Penny stock

In the United States, penny stocks are common shares of small public companies that trade at less than $1.00 and all stocks that trade outside of the major stock exchanges. Penny stocks trade primarily over-the-counter via the OTCBB and Pink Sheets quotation system. Such stocks are considered highly speculative and high risk because of their lack of liquidity, large bid-ask spreads, small capitalization and limited following and disclosure.
